We thought our one year anniversary was a great opportunity to go back and revisit our very first episode. In Episode 1, The Inspired Life we introduced an ongoing theme in this podcast- why and how we can live an inspired life. We hope you enjoy listening to this for the first time or revising it as a reminder and refresher.
Episode Summary:
Are you feeling caged in your personal or professional life? Comfortable? Inspired? In this episode we explore each of these ways of living and help set you on the path to the life that you deserve.
An inspired life means that you follow your path and make intentional choices that allow you to live your life in the way you want it to be. See why we’ve chosen to live an inspired life and how it can help you to be your most authentic, joyful, and fulfilled self. Why would you want to settle for anything less?
In this episode:
There are 3 ways of living: The caged life, the comfortable life, and the inspired life.
We first learned this at a week long workshop with coach and personal development speaker Brendon Burchard. As we heard him talk about this idea, we knew it would change our lives and we instantly wanted to bring it to teachers.
Are you living a caged life?
- You feel trapped.
- You can feel caged in your job, in your relationships, in your inner self.
- Your body, mind, or heart are in the wrong place.
- You often feel miserable.
- You don’t ask for help.
- You desperately want more freedom but you have given up.
- You think things can’t change.
- You often tell people, “ You don’t understand.”
- The longer you are in it, the thicker the bars on the cage become.
- You become resigned to it.
- You are stuck. You are caged.
Are you living a comfortable life?
- This is where a lot of people exist.
- Life is easier. Not everything is a struggle.
- You have every right to be happy, but for some reason, you aren’t.
- You feel like there should be something more.
- You often use the word fine. You feel fine. It’s fine. I’m fine.
Fine is a four letter wood in professional development. It’s fine, but could it be better? Are you settling for an OK life?
Laurie Santos, a Yale happiness researcher says, “We’re entitled to and capable of much more joy than we have settled for.”
Are you settling? Do you deserve more? Do you believe you deserve more?
We don’t want to settle, and we know that we all deserve more.
Are you living an Inspired Life?
Brendon Burchard calls this the charged life. We’ve changed it to suit our style.
- You have high energy.
- You are putting out an energy that you are drawn to. We use the analogy of a power plant, it doesn’t HAVE energy, it generates it. You are generating energy.
- You have high engagement in your life. You are present in the moments and experiencing all of the parts of life.
- You have interest, enthusiasm, and excitement to be here, to be alive.
- You tend to be enthusiastic.
- You look forward to things.
- You are excited about your life.
- You believe in yourself and what you can do.
- You believe in possibility.
- You believe that you can life the life you want to live.
- Living an inspired life means you’re not playing small, or holding back.
- It is not settling for “okay” or fine.
We relate the inspired life to Maslow’s self-actualization stage. Few people may reach self-actualization, but we are on the path.
The inspired life is the life you were born for.
Recap:
What is an inspired life?
An inspired life means that you follow your path, make intentional choices that allow you to live your life in the way you want it to be.
That’s why we created this podcast. We are on this journey to live an inspired life. We’ve read the research and the books. We’ve spent a lot of time and money attending conferences, taking courses in personal development and working with coaches and masterminds.
We’re in this deeply, and we know that this isn’t what you are getting in your school personal development.
We kept asking, why is no one bringing this to teachers? Then we decided that’s what we would do.
This is what you can expect from this podcast- support, encouragement, and strategies to help you live an inspired life- in your your work life and home life, so that you can live your best life.
What would it look like if you choose an inspired life?
Quote:
“Never let your path or your current circumstances limit your vision for your future.”
Brendan Burchard
