This week we have a special guest post created and shared with us by Harvard Graduate School of Education. They have created a slideshow, Raising Strong Readers, for parents and educators to use to promote reading.
The slide show provides information about how to help children from birth through high school succeed in reading. You will learn what you should know and how to help students at different ages. They also provide benchmarks to give an idea of what children should be able to do at different age levels. There are also practical tips to help parents engage in reading activities and discussions with children.
Many teachers promote summer reading by urging students to read at home, recommending library and community reading programs and even sending students home with books. Schools often open their libraries during the summer so that students have access to books. Teachers know that summer reading is crucial in preventing the “summer slide.”
As you promote summer reading, we encourage you to share this information with parents. You may also want to share this with your principal to be included in summer newsletters. You have our permission to link to our website.
